Our friend, Brian Bales, who is also the pastor of Christian Fellowship Church in Ashburn, VA - which we attend and where my husband, Jon, works - asked us if we’d be willing to share a part of our story on Good News for The City Podcast which is a radio ministry through WAVA and OneHeartDC.
We sat down with him a few weeks ago to record, and Episode 230 - Faithfulness in Infertility is the result.
It’s difficult for me to type that title - Faithfulness in Infertility - because I don’t believe we’re experiencing infertility. I don’t have a problem with it being chosen as the title of the podcast episode, and most people would identify what we’re going through as infertility. Several years ago, we even consulted an infertility specialist.
Yes, I know what the word infertility means, and even though it’s been almost 12 years of wanting children, I don’t believe this is infertility. As helpful but frustrating as it was to hear at the time, the doctor we saw said to me on more than one occasion, “I don’t know why you’re not getting pregnant!”
The other reason I say that is because God told me to stop calling myself “infertile” and to stop referring to this journey as “infertility.” At first, I wasn’t sure why that really mattered, but as I’ve come to learn, Words Matter. Who else but God could say 12 years of waiting for children wasn’t infertility?
I could write far more about this topic than what we shared on the podcast, and I’m happy to share more details of this journey, but I’d like to ask you to first listen to the podcast episode. And then, if you’d like to know more about our experience or to share your experience, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
It’s not easy to experience, and sometimes it’s not easy to talk about, but what’s more difficult is trying to navigate it on your own. Over the years, I’ve had amazing friends who have traveled this messy, difficult, tear-filled, joy-filled journey with me. And there’s something helpful and healing about having someone on the path with you who can truly say, “I know how you feel.” Invite your people into this with you. Invite God into this with you. And as always, I’d be honored to listen to your story.
Please feel free to send me an email or schedule some one-on-one time with me. And consider subscribing to my blog, where I post lots of helpful suggestions on how you can begin (and continue) this journey of recovering your blueprint!
