We are better together.
But for many of us, choosing connection or living in community hasn’t always been smooth sailing.
Relationships are messy. We bring all of us - healthy and unhealthy - into relationships. And sometimes the messiness isn’t even an issue of healthy or unhealthy. It could be that “my way” of relating might clash with “your way” of relating. Neither of us may be wrong, but our ways of relating could end up functioning more like gears grinding against each other rather than working in congruence to move things smoothly along.
Misunderstanding will occur. Conflict will crop up. There’s no getting around that. But it’s what we do with misunderstanding and conflict - how we navigate it - that can bring healing or more hurt.
Brian Bales, the pastor of Christian Fellowship Church in Ashburn, VA, once again invited me to join him on the “Welcome to the Drive Home from the Nation’s Capital” show on WAVA 105.1 Radio for a conversation about living in community with all its wonderful and difficult aspects.
