Every one of us has an original design. A true identity. A blueprint.
However, we all believe ideas, exhibit behavior patterns, and engage in ways of relating that negatively affect us and those around us. More importantly, they're not part of the blueprint, but they’ve been around for so long that they seem like they’re just “part of who we are.”
But what if that's not true?

Brooke Ackerman
During the 14 years I was a public school teacher -- teaching English and Language Arts, where I loved watching my students find pieces of their own stories inside the ones we were reading -- and now in my coaching practice, I've often heard this statement, or something like it, from others:
"I'm not sure why, but I feel like
I want to talk to you about this..."
My core coaching perspective is that every person has an original design — a true identity, a blueprint. Over time, we all develop thought patterns, behaviors, and ways of relating that aren't part of that blueprint but feel deeply ingrained. My work helps clients rediscover and return to that authentic self.
My approach focuses on how lived experiences shape the way we think, feel, and relate — to ourselves, to others, and in our own faith journeys. The ultimate goal is restoration and wholeness.

Like my wife, Brooke, I too started in the world of public education. It had been a dream and a passion since I was in the 8th grade, and I loved every minute of my 16 years as a high school history teacher. I loved helping students discover their place in the larger story of the world around them.
Over time, though, I discovered that a second passion had been building – the desire to help people, young or old, discover their place in God’s story. But to truly discover our place in God’s story, we often need help discovering the ways our lived experiences have shaped our heart and mind – how we’ve come to see, hear, think, and feel about ourselves and the world around us. But that discovery is just the beginning.
My greatest passion is helping others experience God’s ability to restore those parts that have been damaged, neglected, or misunderstood. To see others restored. Made well. Made whole.
What exactly is coaching?

Coaching is different from therapy, though the two can sometimes overlap.
We absolutely look at your past — the experiences, relationships, and patterns of thought that have shaped who you are — because understanding where you've been is often key to understanding where you're stuck.
The difference isn't that coaching ignores the past; it's how we engage with it: always in service of what you want to see change, moving forward. For clients who have a faith foundation and want to include it, this can also involve prayer focused on past experiences — though that's never required or pushed, only offered where it fits.
You don't need a diagnosis or a crisis to benefit from coaching — just a willingness to look honestly at your life and take steps toward change.
What to expect from a coaching session
Your first session
Your session is 60 minutes. You'll share what feels like your main concern right now, but we won't stop there. We'll talk about your story: your relationships, your family, and if faith is part of your life, what that's looked like for you. Together, we'll start noticing patterns and connections, and by the end, we'll have a clearer sense of what you want future sessions to focus on and what you want to see change.

Ongoing sessions, at your pace
Sessions are 60 minutes, and how often we meet is up to you: weekly, every other week, or monthly. We'll offer guidance on what we think would serve you best, but this is your journey, and your schedule matters.
Between sessions
Sometimes we'll offer something to reflect on or focus on between our conversations — always specific to what came up for you, never a one-size-fits-all worksheet.
